Disconnected

Got your cell phone handy? We all do, don't we - well until it doesn't work - then we panic - we feel so lost and disconnected from everyone.

One again I feel disconnected from my son. He sent me a text message this morning at 5:00 a.m. to let me know his phone was dying. When he unplugged the phone from the charger, part of the phone came out - still connected to the charger. That is never a good way to start the day.

I survived his 10 weeks of basic training and his only calling about every 14 days, so a few days until his new/old phone arrives at the base should be a piece of cake - right? This makes me think of all the others in his National Guard unit who are currently being deployed. My few days disconnect from my son is only a blink in time in comparison to what those families will feel.

I think of a friend who is in that unit who will be away from his son and wife for the next year. My prayer is that he and the other members of the 278th will all return home safely to reconnect their families.
